SHIIP counselors available to help answer Medicare open enrollment questions

Medicare open enrollment runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, and this year, in addition to routine changes, there may be some coming to Medicare Advantage Plans.

Each year, qualified counselors with the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) are on site at Greene  County Medical Center to provide unbiased information about the plans available, answer questions and assist with finding a plan that fits your medical needs. Appointments are available during open enrollment on Tuesdays from 9 am to 2:30 pm; Wednesdays from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm; and Thursdays from 9 am to 4 pm. Call 515-386-2114 to schedule an appointment.

Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact their insurance carrier. Other resources available during Open  Enrollment include a Medicare hotline with assistance available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call 1-800- MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) to get help understanding letters or notices you have received and what plans are available  in your area, compare the Advantage and drug plans, confirm if your doctor or hospital is covered and to ask questions  about costs, billing and coverage. There is also a Plan Finder Tool available at Medicare.gov.

There are many Medicare Advantage Plan options available for coverage and Greene County Medical Center is committed to helping you connect with SHIIP resources so you can find a plan that works for your healthcare needs and your budget.
